Physics Egg Drop

Successful Egg Drop - Photographer Mr. Bertram

Competition Day data:
Our container mass was 124.5 g, the dimensions of the container were 12.5 cm by 8.5 cm by 19 cm. We had the fasted time of fall at 0.81 seconds at the distance of 5 meters. Our egg on the drop was in perfect condition allowing us to earn a total earned egg score of 160.5 points.

I believe the biggest restriction on our container was the inability to use a parachute. Using a parachute would of greatly reduced the impact speed and made it quite easier for the egg to fall and survive. But with our design a positive with it was having the holder of the eggs, two styrofoam cups and cotton balls, at the top of our box then when it hit the holder can fall into soft padding at the bottom. A negative with our design is for it to work efficiently we need to have it dropped on the bottom. Our design if we had two eggs would change by increasing the height of the box and having a additional holder for the other egg, so not much change would need to occur.

Egg Drop Baby!!!

Today we underwent test day for our egg drop. Our design at the beginning was an old dog chew toy, which had a rubber inside lining. We found it was not big enough so we changed it to a box. In the box we have a Styrofoam cup filled with cotton balls that is suspended above a bunch of cotton lining. We will be working upon increasing the padding and somehow decreasing the mass and dimensions. Our egg didn't break until my other partner, Carmen, had a miss drop and hit the railings so we believe that our design will be successful.

Day Three

Today in class we were reminded more that content posted on the internet should be thought thoroughly through because it may not come of. After that we added another new gadget, the clustrmap, and it shows us and visitors where they have followed from. Now we are beginning to comment on our classmates blogs and giving them feedback on their blogs of what they've done well and what they could improve upon.

Day Two

Our blog is now online and people are now able to follow. Today in class we were allowed to fool around with different types of gadgets and try out different things like more backgrounds and links. The class is starting to become more familiar with the process and i think as the year progresses it will be quite easy to get used to blogging every so often.
